On the Edge
Most people live on the edge, some indescribable moments are written forever in our minds when someone goes from "on the edge" to "over the edge." Such is what described yesterday's events at Virginia Tech. How can anyone ever explain to the parents of those college kids and the families of those professors the events that led up to this slaughter? If we knew each and every detail of the person or persons responsible and every thought that raced through his head for this outrage, it still would not change the fact that there are precious people who are gone and many others wounded either in body or in their spirits, forever changed, forever altered in just a few hours time. I am a professor at a local college and I know that there is a sense of community between the students. Dorms are small, social communities within themselves and here we know of at least one dorm forever marked by insanity and a building of classrooms "chained" to remember these events now and throughout time. Ten years from now, people will still remark, "don't you remember what happened here?" And they will. There is nothing more heart-breaking than to watch your fellowman be lined up and shot. This is not the way life was meant to be. May God in his infinite wisdom help us to understand the larger picture of this short life that leads to all of eternity. We are spiritual beings in a physical shell and both parts cry out to the utter despair of the human souls who are having today face the future without. Without their sons, their daughters, their sisters, their brothers, their aunts, their uncles, the indescribable pain. When you find yourself on the edge, look up, not over and God will meet you there. He is "closer than a brother" when your pain consumes you enough to harm others. God is faithful and true when others disappoint and betray you. When you find yourself on the edge, look up. God is there. He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
